How We Authenticate
Hermès & Chanel Bags
Authenticating a HermΓ¨s Birkin or Chanel Classic Flap requires knowledge that goes far beyond what most people can see. Our experts examine every detail β inside and out.
Blind Stamp & Date Code
We verify the blind stamp (Hermès) or date code (Chanel) against known authentic sequences for the corresponding year. Every year has a specific stamp location, style, and depth. Inconsistencies are immediately flagged.
Hardware Examination
We test weight, finish, and engraving of all hardware components. Authentic Hermès hardware has a specific weight and finish depending on the metal type. We check locks, keys, buckles, and clochettes individually.
Leather & Stitching
We examine leather grain pattern, texture, and scent under magnification. Saddle stitching on authentic Hermès bags has a specific tension, angle (45°), and stitch count per centimetre that cannot be replicated at scale.
Documentation Review
For Full Set pieces, we authenticate the box, dustbag, receipt, lock, and keys. Original receipts are cross-checked for font, paper quality, and store information. Boxes have specific hardware and interior lining per year.
Special Order (HSS) Hermès bags require additional verification as they were never sold through standard retail channels. We cross-reference collector databases and authenticate the two-tone combination, exotic leather type, and special order blind stamp indicators.

Swiss luxury watch authentication requires specialist knowledge of movements, serial number databases, and brand-specific manufacturing details. Our watchmakers have over 15 years of experience authenticating the world's most prestigious timepieces.
Serial Number Verification
Every Swiss watch manufacturer maintains records linking serial numbers to specific models, production years, and markets. We cross-reference every watch serial number against these databases to confirm the reference, year of production, and whether the piece has any manufacturer records.
Richard Mille and Patek Philippe maintain particularly detailed records that allow full traceability from production to current owner.
Movement Inspection
The movement β the mechanical heart of the watch β cannot be easily faked to the expert eye. We open the caseback and inspect under magnification, checking for:
- Correct rotor weight and finish for the reference
- Authentic engravings and serial numbers on the movement
- Correct bridge shapes and finishing (perlage, Côtes de Genève)
- No signs of replacement parts or non-original components
Dial, Hands & Crystal
We examine dial printing quality, lume application, and hand finishing under raking light. Authentic dials have a specific depth of printing and a particular texture that cannot be replicated at scale.
Crystal clarity, anti-reflective coating, and the cyclops lens (Rolex) are examined for authenticity. Aftermarket dials are identified and disclosed in our condition report.
Case, Bracelet & Crown
Case finishing β the precise combination of polished and brushed surfaces β is a defining authentication marker specific to each reference. We verify:
- Case weight and dimensions against reference specification
- Crown engravings and signed pushers
- Bracelet end links, clasp mechanism, and rattle
- All case hallmarks and engravings
Certificate of Authenticity
Every piece sold by Exotic Boutique comes with our written Certificate of Authenticity. This document is your permanent record and adds provenance value should you choose to resell the piece in the future.
The Certificate states:
- Item description β model, material, color, hardware, year
- Our authentication findings and condition assessment
- Date of sale and reference number
- Our contact information, signature, and stamp
- Accepted by major auction houses and resellers globally
